There is nothing that can be hidden from God; everything in all creation is exposed and lies open before His eyes. And it is to Him that we must all give an account of ourselves (Hebrews 4:13; Good News Bible).
I’ve created some things in my time; I’ve made articles of clothing on my excellent Elna machine. I’ve prepared superb soups using my Kitchen Aid appliance. I’ve written twenty-four books at this point in my life, using various laptops and now a Notebook, and I’ve put together countless sermons by researching the Bible. But I could have done nothing without God creating creation. And His building blocks were words! To define His labor, it seemed His creation came out of thin air. He said “Light be,” and Light was. I don’t know of another being who says “House be,” and house materializes.

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:13).
It’s pretty freaky to know that someone knows us better than we know ourselves and can even cite our thoughts before we think them. We’re quite adept at pretending and “putting on a show,” meaning hiding our real feelings, thoughts, goals, desires, etc. And yet, at all times and in all places we are being intently watched by someone who sees through the smoke screen and rips open every hiding place. Yet we go on pretending. Those who pretend there is no God are the ones who are the biggest fools. And there is not a created thing not manifest before Him, but all things are naked and open to His eyes—with whom is our reckoning (Hebrews 4:13; Young’s Literal Translation of the Bible).
According to my little Oxford dictionary, reckoning means “to make an accounting, to compute, to calculate, to judge, to appraise.” Your day of reckoning with God will come, so it’s best to prepare yourself now. The longer you linger in sin, the heavier will be the burden of payment for your faulty character. If the count is accurate, God has about 20,000 angels assigned to you. They are listening to every word you say, they are watching everything you do, and they are recording it all. Their records are impeccable and irrefutable. How can you defend yourself against such a prosecutor? And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:13).
I just read the autobiography of Bear Grylls, and among his escapades were several incidents of running around naked, or skinny dipping, or playing strip poker. I wondered about the propriety of mentioning that in the current of young minds avidly reading how this mega-man grew up. But frankly, isn’t that the way we were created in the first place? Hiding nothing? Naked we arrived and naked we will leave? 20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb and naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” 22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong (Job 1:20-22). |
