And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:13). Every good thing I have comes from God. There isn’t anything I have created on my own. Someone might point out that I gave birth to two children. Yes, but do you think I had any idea what was happening in my body while they were being formed? I was just the vessel through which God gave me those two gifts. There is nothing good that I have ever done for which I can take the credit. I have needed help every step of the way. There’s something about being a human being on planet earth that makes us think we have to make a difference. We have to contribute something that will change things for the better. And basically, that is true. But it is not us who will do it. Any good thing that comes from us, first comes to us from our Father in heaven.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning (James 1:17). We are entitled to nothing. But we are the recipients of everything. Why not put our plans right where they belong—in the garbage can! That’s where they are going to end up anyway! Then why not do things God’s way? He’s the one with the plan; He’s the one with our destiny in His hands; He’s the one who knows what will make the difference. He’s the one who deserves all the credit, and that means He deserves all our praise. We need to get rid of an attitude of entitlement and replace it with an attitude of gratitude. Remember, He’s watching.
