And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:13). It’s pretty freaky to know that someone knows us better than we know ourselves and can even cite our thoughts before we think them. We’re quite adept at pretending and “putting on a show,” meaning hiding our real feelings, thoughts, goals, desires, etc. And yet, at all times and in all places we are being intently watched by someone who sees through the smoke screen and rips open every hiding place. Yet we go on pretending. Those who pretend there is no God are the ones who are the biggest fools. The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They (the fools) are corrupt. They (the fools) have done abominable works. There is none (among the fools) who does good (Psalm 14:1).
We must watch with whom we keep company. Soon we begin to talk like them, to think like them, to act like them, and to be like them. I try my best to consult God in every aspect of my life. “Lord, do You like this?” “Lord, which choice should I make?” “Lord, is this someone with whom You want me to be friends?” He knows who will build me up and who will tear me down. He is the one who puts people together in the groups He has chosen. I want to be able to give a good account when that day arrives.
