The Bible in Depth

These studies are meant to direct you to a deeper look into the Scriptures. Open your Bible to the Scriptures I have written out for you and look at the context in which they were written. If other Scriptures are suggested that pertain to the same subject, look them up as well, as these Scriptures will give you a larger picture about the different subjects I have highlighted for you. Remember, the Word is God and God is His Word.

Study Fourteen

What is the Will of God?

38 For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day (John 6:38-40).

Jesus is the will of God. Whatever He says, all His attitudes, whatever He does, all His actions— these are the will of God our heavenly Father. In other words, Jesus is the model for our lives; if we are to do the will of God, we must mimic Jesus. He received everyone who came to Him. He healed everyone who asked of Him.

Remember those bracelets that said, “What Would Jesus Do?” That’s not such a bad question to ask. Be sure, of course, that you only ask that question of yourself and not using it to flog somebody else.

Have you ever asked some passerby on the street if they know Jesus? I have. It’s amazing to find out how hungry people really are. It is awesome to watch their faces as they ask Jesus to be their Lord. The change is incredible. Of course, there are those who are rough and brush you off. Who knows? Perhaps the question that was asked will play with that person’s thoughts and later they will seek the Lord.

…that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” (Mathew 8:17).

…how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38).

Jesus paid for our sins, for our sicknesses, and for our poverty (see Isaiah 53:5 on the cross). As we spend time with Him, these qualities also grow in us. We can go about doing good as we are expressing the will of our Father God. We can even be the conduit for the healing power of God to touch whoever we are praying for. Only Believe!

Jesus never told anyone that sickness came from God. Nor did He suggest that sickness was a teaching tool. Never! Sickness comes from the devil, just as being tormented by unclean spirits comes from the devil. God’s will is a good life and then an eternal life with Him. Believe it. Receive it. Share it.

For those who are concerned that Jesus wouldn’t want to heal them, or touch them, or do anything good for them, read this last Scripture.

12 And it happened when He was in a certain city, that behold, a man who was full of leprosy saw Jesus; and he fell on his face and implored Him saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 13 Then He put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately the leprosy left him (Luke 5:12, 13).

He is willing! If He will touch leprosy, He will touch any area of your life that you bring to Him. Remember, He is the model we are to follow. Be willing to be like Jesus and go around doing good. Wouldn’t it be great if every Christian had a goal of introducing twelve people to Jesus, just like Jesus did by choosing twelve disciples? These studies could even be part of little groups learning about Jesus and His/our wonderful Father.

Writing has been in my blood, so to speak, but when I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ and He told me to write, all my trepidations rolled away and I began in earnest! After all, if God Almighty says it was His idea that I be a writer, who am I to stand in His way? My hope is that you not only like what I write, but that your life is moved by it, and that your party to Jesus and with Jesus turns your life into days of Heaven on Earth.
