Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining (1 John 2:8).
When scientists found that atoms have a teeny-tiny element of light, smaller even than the quark, the element of sound, the New-Agers went crazy. “See!!!! We’re all made of light, so we are all of the same family; that means all of us are going to heaven!” But it doesn’t mean that. It means we were originally created to be one family, but then Adam ate the fruit! So Jesus had to come to buy us back. The Bible says He came as the “True Light.” How is that light shining now that He is no longer walking on the earth? It’s shining because He lives in you!
That light of God is in me, I know it, but it isn’t always shining brightly. It’s usually in the form of a pilot light as I live my daily life, but then I can stop, find the light, look at it intensely, and it will grow until it fills me, and I’ve been told it shines out of me from time to time. The more people we get born again, the more True Light will be shining, and the less darkness will cover the earth!
Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning (1 John 2:7).
I like going back to beginnings, that way I can return to original purposes. For instance, the first commandment Jesus made in Matthew is: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God,” (Matthew 4:4).
“The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, believe in the gospel,” (Mark 1:15).
In Luke we find: “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve,’” (Luke 4:8).
And in John: “Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise,” (John 2:16)!
