How I Began Writing
Like some of you, I had authority figures who did not think highly of me or my capabilities. Since childhood, I had wanted to be a writer, but my mother told me I wasn’t intelligent enough, so I put away all my writings in a dark box under my bed. Then I met Jesus, and the first thing He said was, “I want you to write for Me.” Now my intelligence no longer matters because I have the mind of Christ! He and I write together!
But I must admit I dawdled. I whined about my lack of ability until one day, He, in His fatherly way, shouted “WRITE!” Suddenly I knew what to do: take people’s testimonies and put them on the radio. Interviews gave me the material, and a passion for drama gave me the framework. I wrote 15 minute short stories, recorded them with background music and sound effects, and at the peak of my radio career they were heard around the world on 107 stations. Station managers reported the listeners called with their stories of being saved and healed by listening to my stories! Radio changed overnight. Suddenly 15 minutes was too long. Nobody wants to listen to radio for 15 minutes. If I could write stories for 2 minute programs they would happily keep me on the air, but I couldn’t. That’s okay. I’ve secretly (and you’re the first ones I’ve told) wanted to write a solid Christian series for television and scenarios for the screen! I’ve taken a few courses and written two scenarios, they say the third one is the one that sells, and I am heading myself in that direction. In the meantime, my workshops, my Day of Discovery teachings, my novels, and teaching books, plus my website are keeping me quite busy, and all that writing and ministry is keeping my relationship with Jesus on fire. Which reminds me, my latest book, Wild Fire, is now available on my website: www.martydelmon.com It’s a foretaste of the revival to come! |
