He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). Of course. Once a person has been born again it is just as easy to sin as it ever was. If sin weren’t so easy no one would do it. We have a wily enemy, the devil by name. It’s not that righteousness is difficult, it’s that it is unknown territory. However, now that we are born again we have a powerful ally, the Holy Spirit by name. He is here to teach and guide us into this new domain where we now have authority. No more is the devil our master. Jesus came and destroyed the works of the devil! That is no small thing! Adam gave his birthright to the devil and since then Satan has ruled the world, but now everything is different! The purpose for Jesus even coming to earth as a man was to take that rulership away from Satan and give our authority back to us! Jesus destroyed all the works of the devil: sin, sickness, hatred, suspicion, arrogance, poverty, and so on. “Hey!” you may easily say, “if He destroyed all that, why does it still exist on the earth, and in fact is rapidly getting worse and worse?” And I ask in return, “Who benefits from all that Jesus did? Those who receive Him as Lord! Those who don’t receive Jesus as Lord are still under the rulership of the devil. There is no other ruler over mankind, Jesus or the devil. Which one rules you?”
