He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him (1 John 2:4).
A man I knew who had gone to church every morning of his life, but who abandoned that practice, said to me, “Tell God I still love Him, even if I haven’t been to see Him lately.” Such sadness came over me. Would I feel loved if someone sent me such a message? I don’t think so. Did my friend ever know God? I can’t imagine that he did. Anyone who knows God knows He doesn’t live in the church building; He lives in the hearts of His people. He puts His Kingdom in His believers and He builds His Temple in each one. His second commandment in the book of John is that we must be born from above. 1 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God,” (John 3:1-3). “Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’” (John 3:7). Please don’t tell me you know all about God and yet have not followed this primary commandment. If Jesus uses the word “must,” it must be a pretty important step to take. Humble yourself and ask to be born from above.
